I know everyone and their mom already has coastal scents brushes, but this was my first time so it’s a big deal to me! And I’m SO HAPPY with my purchase. I got [from left to right] the pink lip brush, duo fibre, deluxe buffer and tapered crease brush and I like all of them! Let me review them individually…

Tapered crease brush $2.49: got it because the crease brush I’m currently using is an artist [paint] brush, but it wasn’t full enough for my liking so I got this and I actually thought it would be like a blending brush, like fluffier, but it isn’t. That’s ok though because I would have more control with this brush and it says its for the crease, while a fluffier brush in a similar shape might not be ideal for crease work.

duo fibre/skunk brush $7.95
: I got this to use for blush cuz sometimes I feel like the brush I have applies my blush, but at the same time it’s brushing off my foundation! So I wanted a brush that has a lighter touch to it.

pink oval taklon lip brush $1.60: I’m not gonna use this as a lip brush…I’ve never actually seen a lip brush that looks like this anyway…it looks like a really small shader brush to me! I’m going to use this as a concealer brush and it’s just the right size to cover blemish marks.

deluxe buffer $4.25
: It’s sooo soft and really dense too! They don’t skimp on the bristles so it’s firm against your face. I like the coverage that it gives me and also the finish. Makes my face look soft and smooth, I love it! One thing that might detract from it is it had a odor to it when I first got it and when it was wet while I was washing, the smell was stronger. You know, like a wet dog! But I washed it with shampoo and brush cleanser and I don’t notice the smell anymore.

And did you check out the prices?? INSANE. They even put my order in a cute mesh drawstring bag and included a free sample of hilight blue eyeshadow!! And shipping took only a few days! Coastalscents.com, I applaud you.

Note: I’m sure there’s people out there who have had bad experiences with coastalscents or ordered products that weren’t so awesome, but my first experience was sooo great…I’m in love. Like L-O-V-E, love.

I’m about to deep clean my brushes today and I wanted to share with you guys the technique. I was going to make my own tutorial for it, but considering I don’t have access to a camera right now, I’ll let Enkore Makeup do the work for me! [I clean my brushes the exact same way he does anyway]

Edit: I thought I posted this a long time ago, but WordPress says it was unpublished so here ya go!

They have a brush like this at Michael’s! It’s a little more bent, but the whole point of the bend is so that you can see what you’re doing! I’m pretty sure its a Leow-Cornell brush. Or you can opt for the one by Sonia Kashuk line at Target.

Most of the makeup brushes I have are from Michael’s, they’re a lot cheaper than buying “real” makeup brushes and they always have a 40% off coupon in the sunday ads every week! They have Loew Cornell brushes at Walmart as well that come in packs. The brushes from Walmart are different from the ones that I use, but you could check them out and see if any of them look useful. Here comes a crapload of pictures!…

Photobucket
Royal Soft Grip size 5 SG 1250. I use this for a crease brush, it isn’t the best, but it’ll do until I get a better crease or blender brush.

Photobucket
Royal Soft Grip size M SG999. I use this as a fluffy eyeshadow brush. TIP: Use flatter [shading] brushes when you want to have more color intensity versus fluffy brushes which don’t pick up or deposit so much color at first]. It’s great for highlighting or blending.

Photobucket
LC American Painter size 1/4 4400 Angular. My angled eyeliner brush. Great for winging out that eyeliner!

Photobucket
Photobucket
LC American Painter size 0 4000 Round. Also for eyeliner and getting more precise lines.

LC 270 Maxine’s Mop in sizes [from top to bottom] 1/2, 1/4, 3/8. These are the shader brushes I mentioned earlier. The big ones I use to apply base or highlighter on the brow bone. The middle brush is for basic eyeshadow application. I use the small one to apply highlighter to the inner corners of my eyes.

Photobucket
Royal size 3/4 Soft Grip SG 950. For application of liquid foundation.

Photobucket
Winsor & Newton size 3. This is my favorite! I use it for blush, it’s made with white goat hair and its soooo soft. It looks like a makeup brush too haha.

Photobucket
I know this isn’t a brush, but it’s related. I use this as a pallete to put my mineral foundation on instead of swirling it into the cap. I also use the wells to put mixing medium in when I do my eyeliner and whatnot. I got this at Michael’s also I think it was either 99 cents or 1.99. All of the smaller brushes go for around 2-4 dollars, but you get an extra discount with the coupon! The discount only applied to one item, but you can choose which item to apply the discount to.

I got the idea to buy makeup brushes from the craftstore from Enkore Makeup. Here’s the video!

Foundation Brushes June 2, 2008

Oh I though of something to write about! So for the longest time I’ve been using my flawless face brush from Bare Escentuals. It’s alright, if there’s something better out there I wouldn’t know any different, cuz this is all I have! Well anyway, now I’m hearing so much about flat top brushes, kabuki brushes, dual fiber brushes…and I’m thinking, do I need an upgrade?

I recently scored a Smashbox kabuki in a swap from makeupalley so I’ll let you know how that goes. I think the only difference between these brushes [to apply mineral makeup] is the coverage you’re going to achieve. And flat top brushes will give full coverage because with brushes flat put on more product, while fluffy puts on less. Honestly,  I just want one cuz everyone else has one! And I’m so itching to order from coastal scents! From what I’ve seen, they’re the best value for your money. But I can only know for sure once I get my hands on some right? [this is the part where I start daydreaming about brushes..mmm]

K, just thought I’d share. Goodnight!
