Jane Be Pure Mineral Gel Liners

I know these Jane liners isn’t big news to many, but it’s new to me because I just got them! So I’ll just put in my two cents about it, since my opinion seems to differ from other bloggers about these particular liners…

Here are the Jane liners with the Coastal Scents liner in the middle. The Jane gives you 0.17 oz/5 g. of product while CS is 0.11 oz/3 g. so with CS you get a little less. They cost about the same, but if you can get the Jane ones on BOGO, then they you’re really only pay a few bucks each!

I feel like the CS liner is a bit more pigmented than the Jane black one. The one gripe I have with the Jane liners is that their texture is super dry! I really have to work my brush in the liner for a while to get product onto my brush and it makes it harder to apply too because its like tryin to put a dry pencil eyeliner on your eyes and it skips places and you gotta go over it twice to get good color. I mean I guess I should have expected that since these are basically the cheapest gel liners out there [oh wait, now that I think about it Wet n Wild has cheap ones too! never tried them though], but it seems others have had better luck with them. I did not care for the brush, the bristles are not in a straight line, like some parts are thicker than others so it makes for imprecise application. However I’m decided to use these Jane brushes as a backup eyebrow brush, so that’s cool.

I continue to use the Jane liners because I had a bad experience swapping so I didn’t really want to do that [unless someone can make me an offer I can't refuse! haha] and I like the brown color! It’s hard to use, but I still try to make it work cuz otherwise I would need to buy another brown gel liner in a different brand. So yeah, they’re ok. Good for beginners… I have a feeling that you would have to use the liner pretty much daily so that the top doesn’t dry out and get like a dry skin that you have to break through to get to the more moist liner underneath it. I would give the Jane gel liners a 7/10 nuts. The price is good, pigmentation is good, it’s just the texture that’s EH to me. I don’t think I would repurchase though haha sorry.

And in an effort to make up for lack of posting, I have a FOTD for you all too! So I was going to visit my friend and they were gonna have a going away party for her cousin during the daytime so this was my FOTD

I kept it neutral and light since it was in the afternoon. Oh yeh and I used the NYC white eyeliner on my waterline, so I don’t know if you can tell but it really opens up my eyes!

Face Products:
- Revlon Colorstay in Fresh beige on t-zone, Medium beige on cheeks

Eyes
- Neutral Estee Lauder quad with grey, brown, shimmery tan and matte cream

Lips
- MAC Elegant Peach lipglass [LE] on top of NYX Circe

I did the matte color all over, then the grey in the contour, some brown in the crease and the tan on my lid under the contour. It’s boring haha and it’s what I do almost every time.

All Matte EOTD

And a tutorial too! kinda..haha

I’ve been seeing a some matte EOTD’s around lately and I noticed they can be really beautiful in their own right. I think we tend to go for shimmery or pearl shadows cuz they look cute in the pan, but this time I got really excited to just use mattes.

From matte

I used the green shadow in the upper left mixed with a matte Jordana black shadow. Jordana actually has pigmented shadows and they’re super cheap too, but when I was at walgreens today I didn’t see any Jordana shadows! Where are they?? Long’s maybe? If you know where to get Jordana shadows, please let me know. They carry a bunch of matte colors too. And it costs like 99 cents each or something. But anyway..

I tapped my Coastal Scents crease brush into the green a few times then the black a few times and applied all over the lid, but concentrated on the contour part and stayed away from my upper lashline.

From matte

I did the same thing here but added another layer

From matte

Line and Highlight. I used Milani ‘Almondine’ for a highlight.

From matte

The only thing about mattes is that they can be harder to blend, so I would just strategically place my brush when applying the shadows since I know it might be hard to blend later.

The finished product!

From matte

I love it!

CS Silica Not to be Used Alone on the Face!!

Remember when I said that Coastal Scents and TKB Trading sell silica powder that is a cheaper alternative to MUFE HD Powder? I take it back! Turns out it’s not so healthy when used alone and is only supposed to be used in “small amounts” in formulations for mineral makeup. Watch the video from Ericaleigh777’s youtube>>

So if you choose to continue to use it, at least dilute the silica with something else, like some other finishing powder that is ready to use.

CS Gel Liner Review pt. 2

Left side of the picture – Mary Kay Signature Eye Primer
Right side of the picture – Urban Decay Primer Potion
10 minute mark
Yeah, the MK side pretty much starting smudging immediately!

From 2008-12-28

MK primer side, I didn’t know the UDPP because it’s basically the same

After 8 hours

From 2008-12-28

MK primer smudgy, oily mess [but the UDPP side isn't budging]

From 2008-12-28

I did another experiment where I used the MK primer plus mineral veil all over the lid, and then I topped the liner with eyeshadow to set it. I don’t have pictures because my camera died, but after about 6 hours the liner transfered onto my lid a bit, not as bad as just the primer on its own tho, but not as good as with UDPP. But I felt that I could wipe off the smudge and blot the oil and it wouldn’t really be noticeable.

So I’m kinda disappointed that it doesn’t work with the Mary Kay primer alone because that’s my “everyday” primer since I don’t want to use my UDPP everyday considering the cost. Also, when I use the MK primer alone and liquid liner, it’s fine and doesn’t crease or smudge so…yeah. I don’t know for sure, because I don’t have MAC blacktrack, but if Coastal Scents is going to claim that their lineer is as good as MAC’s then I would have thought it would perform better than that. If anyone knows about a eyeshadow primer that rivals UDPP or Too Faced Shadow Insurance, but that’s less expensive, please let me know!

Other than my issues with it’s performance…it’s true that a little goes a long way and the color is very pigmented, a true black. I’ll give it a 4/5..but the rating is higher just cuz I think gel lining is fun! hah

CS Gel Liner Review pt. 1

I don’t think my jar was filled all the way! Look at it…

From 2008-12-28

See how the left side is clear? I figure it’s a big air bubble

This is how it’s supposed to look like all the way around

From 2008-12-28

Are you seriouss?? Don’t think I didn’t notice, Coastal Scents…because I noticed.

And the jar is smaller than I imagined. It’s the same size as a 5 gram sample jar, a little taller.  I didn’t put the ruler there on purpose, it was a coincidence haha

From 2008-12-28

I have the review on how the gel liner’s performance coming up!

Coastal Scents Brushes

From 2008-12-07, csbrushes
From 2008-12-07, csbrushes

I know everyone and their mom already has coastal scents brushes, but this was my first time so it’s a big deal to me! And I’m SO HAPPY with my purchase. I got [from left to right] the pink lip brush, duo fibre, deluxe buffer and tapered crease brush and I like all of them! Let me review them individually…

Tapered crease brush $2.49: got it because the crease brush I’m currently using is an artist [paint] brush, but it wasn’t full enough for my liking so I got this and I actually thought it would be like a blending brush, like fluffier, but it isn’t. That’s ok though because I would have more control with this brush and it says its for the crease, while a fluffier brush in a similar shape might not be ideal for crease work.

duo fibre/skunk brush $7.95
: I got this to use for blush cuz sometimes I feel like the brush I have applies my blush, but at the same time it’s brushing off my foundation! So I wanted a brush that has a lighter touch to it.

pink oval taklon lip brush $1.60: I’m not gonna use this as a lip brush…I’ve never actually seen a lip brush that looks like this anyway…it looks like a really small shader brush to me! I’m going to use this as a concealer brush and it’s just the right size to cover blemish marks.

From 2008-12-07, csbrushes

deluxe buffer $4.25
: It’s sooo soft and really dense too! They don’t skimp on the bristles so it’s firm against your face. I like the coverage that it gives me and also the finish. Makes my face look soft and smooth, I love it! One thing that might detract from it is it had a odor to it when I first got it and when it was wet while I was washing, the smell was stronger. You know, like a wet dog! But I washed it with shampoo and brush cleanser and I don’t notice the smell anymore.

And did you check out the prices?? INSANE. They even put my order in a cute mesh drawstring bag and included a free sample of hilight blue eyeshadow!! And shipping took only a few days! Coastalscents.com, I applaud you.

Note: I’m sure there’s people out there who have had bad experiences with coastalscents or ordered products that weren’t so awesome, but my first experience was sooo great…I’m in love. Like L-O-V-E, love.

Foundation Brushes

Oh I though of something to write about! So for the longest time I’ve been using my flawless face brush from Bare Escentuals. It’s alright, if there’s something better out there I wouldn’t know any different, cuz this is all I have! Well anyway, now I’m hearing so much about flat top brushes, kabuki brushes, dual fiber brushes…and I’m thinking, do I need an upgrade?

I recently scored a Smashbox kabuki in a swap from makeupalley so I’ll let you know how that goes. I think the only difference between these brushes [to apply mineral makeup] is the coverage you’re going to achieve. And flat top brushes will give full coverage because with brushes flat put on more product, while fluffy puts on less. Honestly,  I just want one cuz everyone else has one! And I’m so itching to order from coastal scents! From what I’ve seen, they’re the best value for your money. But I can only know for sure once I get my hands on some right? [this is the part where I start daydreaming about brushes..mmm]

K, just thought I’d share. Goodnight!
