Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation + FOTD June 22, 2009

From Rimmel

I got my hands on some Rimmel Lasting Finish Mineral Enriched Foundation and I’m kinda torn about whether or not I like this foundation. Compared to the Revlon Colorstay, it does not apply as smoothly. The Rimmel foundation was blotchy looking and accentuated dry spots. In the picture below I have CS on most of my face and Rimmel on my forehead. It also looks really dark in the tube, but once applied it is lighter. I think the shade I got might still be a tad light for me, but the other choices I had at Walgreens at the time seemed to be a worse match than what I chose so I figured I could balance out the lightness with bronzer. As for staying power, I think it holds up pretty well. I admit I only tried it out twice, but both those times were for a party situation when I needed my makeup to be reliable and it didn’t disappoint me. I actually think that the Lasting Finish looks better after it settles with your skin. So even though the review may sound terrible, I don’t think this is a bad foundation, but if i was really seriously buying a foundation I would stick with the Colorstay and if it was like an emergency situation I would pick up the Rimmel.

I did this look a couple weeks ago to go to a party and I made the liner pretty dramatic for a more funky look. On my lips I don’t remember exactly what I used but I know I used my Wet n Wild hot pink lipstick plus a gloss.

Jane Be Pure Mineral Gel Liners April 20, 2009

I know these Jane liners isn’t big news to many, but it’s new to me because I just got them! So I’ll just put in my two cents about it, since my opinion seems to differ from other bloggers about these particular liners…

Here are the Jane liners with the Coastal Scents liner in the middle. The Jane gives you 0.17 oz/5 g. of product while CS is 0.11 oz/3 g. so with CS you get a little less. They cost about the same, but if you can get the Jane ones on BOGO, then they you’re really only pay a few bucks each!

I feel like the CS liner is a bit more pigmented than the Jane black one. The one gripe I have with the Jane liners is that their texture is super dry! I really have to work my brush in the liner for a while to get product onto my brush and it makes it harder to apply too because its like tryin to put a dry pencil eyeliner on your eyes and it skips places and you gotta go over it twice to get good color. I mean I guess I should have expected that since these are basically the cheapest gel liners out there [oh wait, now that I think about it Wet n Wild has cheap ones too! never tried them though], but it seems others have had better luck with them. I did not care for the brush, the bristles are not in a straight line, like some parts are thicker than others so it makes for imprecise application. However I’m decided to use these Jane brushes as a backup eyebrow brush, so that’s cool.

I continue to use the Jane liners because I had a bad experience swapping so I didn’t really want to do that [unless someone can make me an offer I can't refuse! haha] and I like the brown color! It’s hard to use, but I still try to make it work cuz otherwise I would need to buy another brown gel liner in a different brand. So yeah, they’re ok. Good for beginners… I have a feeling that you would have to use the liner pretty much daily so that the top doesn’t dry out and get like a dry skin that you have to break through to get to the more moist liner underneath it. I would give the Jane gel liners a 7/10 nuts. The price is good, pigmentation is good, it’s just the texture that’s EH to me. I don’t think I would repurchase though haha sorry.

And in an effort to make up for lack of posting, I have a FOTD for you all too! So I was going to visit my friend and they were gonna have a going away party for her cousin during the daytime so this was my FOTD

I kept it neutral and light since it was in the afternoon. Oh yeh and I used the NYC white eyeliner on my waterline, so I don’t know if you can tell but it really opens up my eyes!

Face Products:
- Revlon Colorstay in Fresh beige on t-zone, Medium beige on cheeks

Eyes
- Neutral Estee Lauder quad with grey, brown, shimmery tan and matte cream

Lips
- MAC Elegant Peach lipglass [LE] on top of NYX Circe

I did the matte color all over, then the grey in the contour, some brown in the crease and the tan on my lid under the contour. It’s boring haha and it’s what I do almost every time.

This is sorda the opposite of my last FOTD in a way because instead of being all matte, it’s really shimmery! Which I didn’t really mean to do, but it just ended up that way, but it still turned out cute. I wanted to do a soft smokey look for the daytime.

From softsmokey

Face:
- Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel
- Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda concealer pallette [under eyes]
- MAC Mineralized skinfinish natural in medium

Eyes:
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
1) The Body Shop shimmercubes silver
2) e.l.f. silvery white color
3) Bare Escentuals warmth
4) Jordana black
5) NYX jumbo eyeshadow pencil in slate
6) coastal scents gel liner
7) a matte cream color, I forgot to take a picture of it

I used the matte cream color all over from brown bone to lashline. Then I put the silver colors on my lid, then warmth in the crease then black over the warmth and blend well. I used the NYX jumbo pencil on my waterline, I like that pencil cuz its like a gray that’s kinda blue-ish. It looks great paired with a smokey eye without being too dark. Then I lined my upper lashline with gel liner.

This is kinda like a face of the day… at least you’re seeing my face! I did a simple valentines look because we just went out to eat lunch to avoid the dinner crowds. I used a mostly matte cream colored shadow all over the lid and then a taupe, but more on the gray side, shadow all over the lid, concentrating on the contour. Then liquid liner and red lips! That’s it, easy.

We ate at a place called Boulevard Cafe in Daly City

The food was pretty tasty! Here’s the coconut shrimp

Blvd Burger, it’s a cheeseburger with Thousand Island dressing and grilled onions

Looking at my valentine’s goodies with that one dinosaur from Barney. He was swimming in a sea of candy that was inside the bag. There was Hershey’s Cookies and Cream bars, my favorite!

We made steaks, wait no, FILET MIGNON for dinner! With mushroom gravy, yummm

Hope everyone had a fun Valentines! I know I did! :)

Warriors FOTD and Ulta Eyeshadow Base January 16, 2009

We went to go watch the Warriors play the Kings!

YO! It’s Yao haha

Sad cuz we lost. We’ll get em next time!

From warriors011409

I used the game as an opportunity to test out the Ulta Eyeshadow Base

The UDPP side performed well as it normally does. There is darkness in the outer v that looks like smudging, but I actually put black eyeshadow there. On the Ulta side, we have some smudging, you can see where the eyeliner transfered to my lid. Also there is some fading and creasing towards the inner part of the lid. Even though the Ulta base didn’t live up to the Urban Decay PP, I was surprised at its performance. I was expecting all my eyeshadow to be melted by the time I got back from the game. The pics were taken 6 hours after application. So obviously the Ulta base isn’t as good as the UDPP, but for everyday wear I think it would be ok. I’ll consider buying my own, not quite sure yet. but it’s only $7.00 at Ulta so it won’t break the bank. Oh, if you’re goin to try to look for it at Ulta, they put it with all the eyeshadows, its like in the first or second slot and it has the same packaging as the eyeshadows so look for the only one that looks creamy!

I’m finally putting my Milani eyeshadows to good use!

I used Storm on outer v and crease, Silver Bullet on inner lid, Mark eye-mark in Minx [a shimmery taupe] on outer lid. For the highlight I used a bunch of different shadows because it didn’t look right with just Snow Frost, but I don’t really remember all the stuff I used.

I said I would let you know about my hair…well, I didn’t notice a difference using the honey and olive oil mask. So, I’m still on the lookout for a deep conditioner that is affordable! [Or try to find Joico K-pak on sale!]

I did this eye the same as the one I did yesterday except with greys.

Face: EM Medium Tan + Medium Beige, Mark blush in after glo [? i think!]

Eyes: Milk of Magnesia [primer], TBS eyebrow powder, Pantina gel liner, TBS shimmer cubes in black velvet and dusted silver, my liner is black eyeshadow + homemade mixing medium

The pantina pallete, I don’t like it and it’s discontinued anyway, I just use it to try to make the colors more vibrant, but their “gel” eyeliners are pretty greasy.

Black velvet and dusted silver. The streaky part on black velvet is where i dip my eyeliner brush when I apply it wet, I guess the eyeshadow on that part is now ruined but I don’t really care.

Photobucket

Look how much you get!! And the whole quad is under under 20 dollars.

Photobucket

I actually like this Mark blush, I’m sorry I forgot the name though! It’s most likely After Glo.
